- Release Notes:
- Long running UK vets, Echo and the Bunnymen bring us The Fountain. The
- Fountain is a massive return to form. ItÆs a superbly feisty album of
- pulsating, uplifting rock anthems such as the joyous ôThink I Need It
- Too,ö ôDo You Know Who I Am,ö ôForgotten Fields,ö ôEverlastingö and the
- Bowie-esque pop of ôProxy,ö ôShroud Of Turin,ö all centered around a
- grand, reflective soul-stirring ballad ôThe Idolness Of Gods.ö Its a
- powerful album that sees the Bunnymen back to their very best and with
- a truly modern.
- The Fountain was kick-started in 2007 when Ian McCulloch began working
- on some new ideas with three London-based musicians. ôI thought [Will
- Sergeant and I] needed to do stuff differently, but the result still
- sounded like the Bunnymen,ö McCulloch says. The album was pieced
- together over the next year, with Mac and Will working on tracks at
- their managementÆs Parr Street Studios in Liverpool. The first single
- off the album is the joyous ôThink I Need It Too,ö an old-sounding new
- song that acts as the perfect introduction to a powerful album that
- sees the Bunnymen back to their very best.
- The albumÆs widescreen, crystalline sound is the work of Scottish
- producer John McLaughlin, whose credits may come as a surprise to some
- Bunnymen fans. ôHeÆs done work with Busted and Five, who I loved!ö
- smiles Mac. ôI just became really good friends with him. I really want
- a big, solid undertow beneath the lyrics, not all jingly jangly like
- Siberia. I wanted someone I could trust to get the sound when he heard
- me playing.ö
- If recent live shows are anything to go by, Echo & The Bunnymen really
- do seem like a band rejuvenated. Their sold out Ocean Rain shows last
- year at the Royal Albert Hall, London, Radio City Music Hall, New York
- & Liverpool Echo Arena were met with huge critical acclaim.
- The Fountain offers a truly modern sensibility and by all accounts,
- proves that the Bunnymen are BACK. If the warm reception to the first
- single ôThink I Need It Tooö is any indication (debuted at #1!), get
- ready to see a whole new generation discover one of the UKÆs most
- iconic bands.
